How to write product descriptions that sell, with AI prompts
A simple structure for product descriptions that lead with the outcome, plus prompts for writing, reviewing and improving your listings.
A good product description answers three questions fast: what will this do for me, why this one, and what exactly am I getting. An AI assistant is useful here, as long as you give it real details about the product and your customer.
The structure
Open with the outcome, the thing the buyer actually wants. Follow with three or four features, each explained as a benefit. Finish with the practical details: size, materials, delivery, care. Keep it scannable.
Prompt: first draft
Write a product description for [product] for [customer]. Lead with the outcome, then features as benefits, then specs: [list specs]. Tone: [tone]. Max 150 words.
Prompt: borrow your customers' words
Here are customer reviews: [paste]. Pull out phrases worth reusing in my descriptions, recurring complaints I should address, and three FAQ ideas.
This is the best-kept secret of good copy: your customers have already written the most convincing lines for you.
Prompt: fix a weak listing
Improve this product listing and explain each change: [paste]. Keep every fact accurate and don't add claims I can't back up.
Prompt: titles with keywords
Write 5 product titles for [product] for [platform], including the keywords [keywords] naturally, within [n] characters.
Finally, check every claim against the real product. An honest description that sets the right expectations brings fewer returns and better reviews.
